About Me.

Hi, I'm Alex, I grew up in an environment surrounded by practicallity and engineering. From a young age I was often found helping my dad with various DIY tasks. This is when I began gaining practical knowledge through experience. As a child I was always riding my bike which would often need fixing. My practical knowledge continued to expand when I began fixing my own bicycles. I have since continued to learn new practical skills through: hobbies, education and work experience.

After choosing to study Design and technology at GCSE & then Alevel, I combined my passion for bicycles and creativity. I began my Alevel coursework and set out designing an adaptive bicycle. As part of this process I began to develop my Designer skillset. I learned new Solidworks skills which enabled my work to be rapidly prototyped through 3D printing and Laser cutting. The iterative process was something I was well suited to, as it was practical and hands on. From this moment onwards I knew I wanted to study Design further. I applied to study Industrial design at University. I achieved a top grade in Alevel design that gained me a place at Loughborough Univerisity on the BA Industrial Design course.

Cleaner Position

Rockcurl Hairdressing

This job allowed me to develop my time management as I was working alone for 2 hours a day after-hours. Although I was working alone I began to enjoy independant work. This opportunity also allowed me to build trust with the employer proving I was a reliable employee to work unsupervised.

July 2023 - September 2023

Maintenance Assistant

Pocklington School

This job was offered as a temporary contract over the summer period. The job consisted of general DIY jobs in preparation for the new academic year. This opportunity developed my teambuilding and social skills as I was often working with new teams on a daily basis.

July 2024 -

Maintenace worker

Pocklington School

I was contacted by my boss from the previous year asking if I would like to return for the summer with more hours compared to the past year. I was delegated more independant work as I had previously proven myself a reliable employee. This work was safety checks on firedoors, emergency lighting tests as well as general maintenance tasks. This built my independance and self initiative.
